What is Sigma Xi?

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society was founded in 1886 as an honour society for research scientists and engineers. Sigma Xi is an independent, non-profit research society with more than 500 chapters around the world - at colleges, universities, industrial research centres, and government research centres. Membership in Sigma Xi is by invitation and promising young scientists and students with demonstrated research potential are invited to join Sigma Xi firstly as Associate Members. Full membership is conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated noteworthy achievements in research. Sigma Xi is a well respected organisation that boasts 198 Nobel laureates among its members. In addition to awarding hundreds of grants annually to promising young researchers, Sigma Xi publishes the journal American Scientist. For more information follow the link to Sigma Xi.
